After Living with the Land, it was time for our third Fastpass of the day – The Seas with Nemo and Friends. We didn’t need a fastpass for this, but there’s not a ton of options with the tiered system at Epcot. I thought this ride was super cute, and we spent quite a bit of time looking around the aquariums afterwards. I loved the manatees – so adorable, just floating around eating their buckets of lettuce!

We headed over to watch the Pixar Short Film Festival. We are both HUGE Pixar fans, so we knew we wanted to check this out. We walked right in, and stood in a large room waiting for the next show to start. There were a few screens around the room showing interviews with Pixar animators and directors to keep you occupied while waiting. Once the doors opened, we entered the theater and took a seat with our 3D glasses. The three short films shown were “Get A Horse”, “For the Birds” and “La Luna”. I had saw all three of these shorts before (“For the Birds” was shown in theater before Monsters Inc, “Get A Horse” was shown in theaters before Frozen and “La Luna” was shown in theaters before Brave), but the 4D was fun! Sorry for no pictures!

We stopped to get a few Photopass pictures by the fountains close by the theater.

It was finally time for us to enter World Showcase! We entered Canada first, where we stopped to watch the slightly outdated 14 minute film celebrating the beauty of our home country. I loved the look of the main building (where Le Cellier is located), which was designed to look like a hotel in Ottawa, but it was a little strange that it was nestled amongst the Rocky Mountains – which are not even remotely close to Ontario. And then the gardens are designed to look like Victoria… But I understand, Canada is a huge country and it’s just a fake representation to show how pretty our country is.

Luke stopped at the beer cart to buy a La Fin du Monde. It’s not a very common beer in Alberta, so he had never tried it before, but he really enjoyed it! He actually picked up a few when we were in New Brunswick this past June, where they were super cheap. He’s also found it here in Alberta, and buys it every once in awhile.

We took our time and looked around the Canadian store – so much maple syrup! I didn’t buy anything, since obviously we can get all of that stuff here at home. Way back in the day, when I was in Girl Guides we actually went to see maple syrup being made once. Fresh, hot maple syrup poured directly onto fresh snow is incredible – try it if you ever have the chance! The store also had lots of NHL hockey stuff (it is true, us Canadians really do love our hockey), but not all of the Canadian teams were represented – I couldn’t find anything with the Oilers logo? I wouldn’t have bought it from there anyways, but still. I did find this tshirt though, which made me laugh – but it’s actually true in a lot of ways, us Canadians do love maple syrup, beer and hockey…:

Our next stop was England. We looked around the shops a bit – they were full of Doctor Who merch – a show I’ve never watched a single episode of. The British Invasion band was playing, so we stopped to watch them for a few minutes.

We then crossed the International Gateway over to France. We looked around a bit, and then stumbled across L’Artisan des Glaces – which made me so excited! I don’t eat ice cream very often (dairy isn’t always my best friend), but I had to try one of the flavours from here. I went for the cinnamon apple crumble, and Luke chose the salted caramel. We used a snack credit each on a single scoop (cost = $4.69). We started eating our ice cream, and then realized what time it was – it was almost time for our supper reservation! We set off walking, eating our amazingly delicious ice cream along the way. It was so good! I loved the flavours of both, but I think I’d give the slight edge to mine. Sorry for no pictures!

After scanning our Magicbands to use up a table service credit each for our supper at Garden Grill (review can be found here) we headed out of the restaurant and headed over to the character spot and hopped in line to meet Baymax. We had a bit of a wait, but it wasn’t too bad (maybe 10-15 minutes). It was a really cute character meet, but I wish the costume was designed a little bit differently. It was inflatable, so it didn’t give him very much for range of motion – he couldn’t even fist bump (bah la la la la)! Yes, I tried.

I guess I did eat a lot at Garden Grill, I look like I put on about 10 pounds from the Photopass pictures we had taken earlier in the day…

After this we entered the World Showcase – again through Canada. We stopped and jumped in line so Luke could get another La Fin du Monde.

While we were standing in line, a VERY intoxicated girl came and got in line behind us with her friends. We started talking to them, and found out it was her 21st birthday so she was finally legal drinking age in the US and wanted to enjoy it by drinking around the world. Canada was the last stop for her, so she was 10 drinks deep at that point and feeling pretty good haha. She mentioned she was going to order a Moosehead because the name made her laugh, but I made a disgusted face (it’s made in NB, so it was very common among my friends when we were 19-20). Luke told her to go for a Kokanee instead (a British Columbia beer) since it was cheaper and tastes slightly better. I then told her to end her night with a bang, and order the shot of Crown Royale . For anyone who doesn’t know, it’s whiskey, so the poor girl! That’s what she ended up ordering, and she took it like a champ! (I went through a stage where Crown on the rocks was my drink of choice, but now the thought of that makes me gag haha). After she had her shot of whiskey, we stood around talking to her and her friends for another few minutes. Her friends were fairly sober, but were all clearly being entertained by birthday girl. At some point, Justin Bieber came up because we’re Canadian and he’s Canadian and we were standing in the Canadian pavilion. Birthday girl’s friends informed her that the ducks currently roaming around our feet were actually presents from Bieber to Disney World, and they had traveled down with Luke and I…the girl just stared at them in shock. After this, we said our goodbyes – I hope she had fun on her birthday and wasn’t in too much pain the next day!

We had spent time looking around the UK pavilion earlier in the day, so we just skipped over it this time. We did have to stop in France though, I had a very important purchase to make!

Grey goose slushie! It was a little expensive – I think it was $12 which is over $15 Canadian – but so worth it! It was so good, and it was one of the few alcoholic drinks I had on the entire vacation. I will not even hesitate about buying one on our next trip – seriously. That thing was amazing. We spent a bit of time looking around the Morocco pavilion, but I guess I didn’t feel the need to take any pictures… Same for Japan. We looked around a bit, then stopped to use the bathrooms at the American Adventure pavilion. And that’s all we saw of that one haha, but for what it’s worth the bathrooms were very large! We were quickly running out of time, so we only spent a few minutes at the Italy pavilion so I could get to the Germany pavilion quicker. I spent 2 weeks in Germany back in 2005 when I was 17, and I fell in love with Haribo gummy candies while there. I can buy them here in Canada, but they can sometimes be hard to find. After loading up on candy in Germany (I also had to buy some chocolate there, so good). We spent a few minutes in the China pavilion and then realized it was almost time for Illuminations. We just walked past Norway and Mexico, but never actually made it in to look around either I did snap this picture though…

We found a spot to watch Illuminations and I sat on the ground to wait. I was so tired! We were outside the Mexico pavilion, closer to the main walkway to get back to Future World – not the best spot, but we were able to see some of the show. I was so exhausted all of a sudden that I didn’t even care. I did get these pictures though:

Once the show ended we started making our way to the front of the park to catch a bus. We did stop for a few Photopass pictures along the way:

Once we got back to our room, we both fell asleep almost instantly – and we had a very early morning planned for the next day!

Also worth mentioning – at some point during this day we went on Mission Space (green). Neither one of us were fans, I can’t even imagine what the orange side is like… We also went to Club Cool to sample some various Coca-Cola products from around the world at one point. I loved this! I knew about it, but I still had to try the Beverly – I’m not into bitter at all. My favourite was the bubblegum tasting one . My note taking wasn’t the greatest on this day, so I have no idea when either of these things happened (and my picture taking was lackluster this day as well…)

We woke up a little later than planned on this day, but it wasn’t too terrible. After waking up, we got ready, ate a few of the snacks from our stash in our room (thank you Amazon order that we shipped direct to the hotel!) and then headed out. We didn’t have to wait long for our bus, and the ride itself was fairly short. It wasn’t long before we were pulling up to Epcot – the only park we hadn’t been in yet! We arrived shortly before 10am, so almost an hour after rope drop, and the security line was crazy long! It was moving, and the wait really wasn’t too bad. Luke once again was selected for additional screening (by the end of the trip, he just headed to the metal detectors on his own without being asked, since this was now the third day in a row he was selected haha) We honestly didn’t mind, anything to help keep the parks safer!

We didn’t stop for any Photopass pictures, since we were running short on time for our first FastPass. We started heading towards Future World East. It took quite a bit longer than usual to get there, due to the marathon which was going through the park. At this point, most of the runners looked like people who were used to doing this, the people who had run a marathon or two (or fifty) in the past. It was really amazing how organized Disney is with the entire thing, the way they would corral the park visitors into one section, then change the race course ever so slightly and then move park visitors to the next section. It’s hard to explain, but it was very impressive! We didn’t mind the extra time it took to get to our first Fast Pass at all, we enjoyed watching the race and clapping our encouragement for the people who were nearing the end of a full marathon.

Once we were given the go-ahead to cross into Future World East, we hopped into the Fast Pass for Test Track (we made it with a few minutes to spare!). We didn’t have to wait very long before we were standing in front of a screen designing our own vehicle. For some reason, I didn’t think to take a picture of the monstrosity we created – just know that it was our goal to make it as ugly as possible haha…Shortly after that we boarded the back row of a blue car.

This ride is basically the same as Radiator Springs at Disney California Adventure – and we ended up in the exact same seats in the car as we did on our April 2015 trip to California haha –

Yes, I took a picture of the preview screen haha, we didn’t buy any of our on-ride photos from either of our first two trips to Disneyland.

Test Track is fun, and the ability to design your own car at Epcot is really neat, but I think I prefer DL’s version more. The ride just fits so well with the Cars theme, and the dark part of the ride is phenomenal! At Epcot you’re just taking turns and dealing with road conditions, at DCA you’re avoiding Mack and tipping tractors with Mater, etc. I also love the first open-air part of Radiator Springs when you’re slowly driving along the waterfall is really awesome too! Test Track is definitely a can’t miss ride for me at Epcot, but the overall theming does pale in comparison to DCA’s Radiator Springs.

After looking around at the different cars and stuff for a few minutes we decided to start heading over towards Fast Pass #2. We had time, so we stopped along the way to do a little shopping at Mouse Gear. Luke found these awesome Wall-E and Eve coffee mugs he had to have (it’s his favourite movie) so we bought those and had them shipped back to our hotel (again, I LOVE this option when staying on site). The marathon was still in full swing, so we again had a chance to watch and cheer on the participants. By this point the people running by were just ordinary people doing an extraordinary thing, not the seasoned veterans of marathon running we had saw earlier. From where we were watching, they only had a little over a mile to go before finishing the race, so some people looked to be in excruciating pain. These people had been running for hours at this point, they were limping and bleeding, but they were still going and they were forcing smiles for the hundreds of people cheering them on. I had never been that close to the finish line of a marathon as the everyday people went by (I’ve gone to Luke’s races before, but he’s using only running 10km, so by the time we leave it’s still only the elite athletes finishing the full marathon). It was really powerful stuff to witness.

When we got to Fast Pass #2 for Spaceship Earth, there was only a 10 minute wait in the standby line. With our Fastpasses we walked onto the ride. I did enjoy this ride, but I’ll admit neither one of us were paying super close attention. We were both still thinking about watching those marathon runners. While were we looking around after getting off the ride, Luke told me that he was really inspired by watching the marathon for a few minutes, and as of that moment he realized it was something he wanted to do. He completed a half marathon a few years ago, but that was his ultimate goal at the time and afterwards he scaled back and has been doing 10km races since then (with a few 5km’s in there as well). He also decided that he wants his first ever full marathon to be a runDisney event (which is more than fine with me!). He started discussing timelines – he was able to comfortably run a 10km a few days earlier, so that was his base. He decided to aim to run a half marathon in early 2017 (at the time, we were thinking Star Wars weekend or Tinker Bell weekend at Disneyland, this has since been changed to WDW Marathon Weekend) and then come back to Florida in January 2018 so he could run a full. I was really excited about this – we hadn’t even come home yet and we had already decided on a return date! (PS: Luke is actually going to be running a half marathon in January 2017 during Marathon weekend, and we’re both also signed up for the 5km.

After this, we realized we were both a little hungry. We knew we wanted a quick service option, so we went to Sunshine Seasons. This place is great! The menu was much larger than I thought it was going to be, and we had no trouble finding things that sounded great! It also was not busy at all – and we were there right at lunch time (around 12:30). My review can be found here.

From where we were sitting, we could see that there was no line for Living With the Land, so we walked straight onto that. Ever since we bought our house I have been in love with gardening, so I really enjoyed this ride and found it quite interesting! I think I’d like to do the Behind the Seeds tour at some point in my life. (I apologize if my pictures are out of order)

Next: More Epcot

After eating our disappointing pretzels, we decided it was time to head out of the park. We stopped by the Christmas tree outside the main gate for more Photopass pictures

This is basically the only one that’s worth posting haha. The photographer told us to do the hula for some reason, but Luke and I are awkward and all of those pictures did not turn out haha…

I really wanted to go on the transportation boats, so this was our chance to do so! We hopped on the boat that was headed for Epcot. I decided we should get off at the Yacht & Beach Club – I secretly really wanted to see the gazebo there that hosts Disney weddings haha! It was everything I thought it’d be, so gorgeous! What a beautiful resort the Yacht Club is, but I don’t think it’s my style so it’s not high on my list of places to stay. We didn’t have a ton of time to look around, and I didn’t take a single picture . We went to the bus stop and had to wait about 15 minutes, our longest wait yet for Disney transportation. Finally, we were on a bus heading to Disney Springs!

Once our bus pulled up to Disney Springs, I had time to grab a map and then we headed straight to Morimoto Asia to meet up with my cousin and her boyfriend. As always, click here to read the review.

After we finished our meal (which my cousin insisted on paying for, it was so nice of her!) we headed over to Raglan Road to sit outside. It was a really nice afternoon, so everyone (except me) grabbed a beer (beer=gross). We sat, drinking, chatting and soaking up the sunshine. The boys each bought a second beer to go and the four of us walked, stopping to check out a few stores. My cousin’s son loves Lego, so she had to go take pictures of the store for him (he was at home in southern Florida with his grandparents, my aunt and uncle who were in Florida visiting). After this, my cousin and her boyfriend realized it was starting to get late, and they had a few hours of driving ahead of them so we said our good-byes and parted ways.

Our original plan was to spend this day relaxing and checking out Disney Springs and I’m so glad we didn’t have any ADR’s in the parks so we could make a meet-up with my cousin work! It was really nice to see her! One of my trips to Miami was before she had her son, and her husband at the time was working long hours so we spent an entire week hanging out with just the two of us, so we’ve been close since.

After saying goodbye, Luke and I stuck around Disney Springs. We took our time looking around inside the stores but not buying much at first. At some point, it started POURING rain – and of course our rain coats were back in our hotel room. We had to make a dash from store to store trying to stay dry. We ended up spending over an hour at World of Disney, I had to look at everything! I ended up spending quite a bit of money there on souvenirs haha…

After our shopping spree at World of Disney, and a bit of window shopping (while running from store to store in the rain), we realized we were a little bit hungry again. We didn’t want to ruin the late supper we had planned, so we went to Ghiradelli for a little snack. It had been raining for hours by this point, and it was kind of cold so I decided I didn’t want ice cream, and went for the salted caramel hot cocoa. It was so good! It was warm and tasty and exactly what I wanted at that moment Luke chose a scoop of chocolate ice cream and a bottle of water. We managed to find a dirty table under the overhang where we could stay dry outside, so we sat and enjoyed our snack. After finishing up, we decided it was time to start heading towards our supper reservation – I was looking forward to this one!

We made a stop at the Christmas store, I love ornaments! I found an All-Star Resort ornament which I plan on taking a fine-tip Sharpie and adding in the dates of our trip.

Luke also found a Wall-E and Eve ornament, which is his favourite Pixar movie.

After paying for our purchases, we went and hopped on a bus to Fort Wilderness – we were heading to the Hoop-dee-doo Musical Revue! It stopped raining while we were on the bus. We had the entire bus to ourselves, so we spent the drive chatting to our bus driver – what a nice lady! She was so helpful and friendly, and explained exactly how to use the Fort Wilderness internal buses to get back to Hoop dee doo. We had about a 10 minute wait before the internal bus came along, and by that point more people had joined us in waiting, all on their way to the same dinner theatre show

I didn’t realize how huge Fort Wilderness was! It was a short walk from where the bus dropped us off though, and we were still too early to be let in for the show. We went to the ticket booth to make sure we were good to go, and then we had time to just look around. There was a little shop close by, and I ended up spending $50 on a bracelet and charms…opps! I really liked it though, and ended up wearing the bracelet every day for the rest of our trip!

After waiting for about 15-20 minutes, we were let in for the show. We had a great table in category 2 seats for the last show of the night (the 8:30pm show). It wasn’t even close to being sold out, and it was mainly adults there at that time of day. My review can be found here.

After the show ended, we caught a bus back to the main gate at Fort Wilderness. From there, we hopped on a bus heading to Magic Kingdom, and then from there we had to catch a third bus to get back to All Star Music. The most we had to wait for any of the connections was a few minutes, so not bad at all. By the time we got back to our room, it was after 11pm so we just went straight to bed to prepare for another full day tomorrow!

Next:

After our long day on Friday, we decided to sleep in a bit on Saturday. Our first fastpass for the morning was for Muppet Vision 3D, but we had walked straight onto it yesterday, so we used that time to sleep instead. After we woke up a little after 9, we got ready while eating a few of the snacks we had in our room (you might remember I had placed an Amazon order for a bunch of American snacks that I can’t get in Canada and had it shipped to our hotel. I grew up about a 2 hour drive from the Maine border, so we used to drive over there a few times each year and we always spent time in a grocery store buying different snacks and food to take home with us.)

We headed out of our room and caught a bus back to Hollywood Studios. Originally we weren’t even going to use this as a park day, and just spend the time hanging out at our hotel and checking out Disney Springs, but once we realized how little it would cost to change from a 5 day ticket to a 6 day ticket, we figured it was worth it for 3 Fastpasses (especially since Hollywood Studios uses that tiered system for FP). Once we went through security (where Luke was once again selected for additional screening haha) we had time to stop for a few Photopass pictures! I really wanted to get a few with the Minnie Ears I had purchased the day before

I have no idea why I took my glasses off for these pictures? Even my sunglasses are prescription ones, I wear my glasses all day every day. Oh well, I guess it’s nice to have a different look in these pictures…

From there we headed over to our 2nd Fastpass selection of the day (but the first one we made it to..) – Star Tours. Again. For the fourth time in 2 days haha – like I said, we really enjoyed this ride! We were just walking along afterwards when I saw another Photopass photographer, so you know what happened next! I made Luke pose for more pictures with me! For these ones I’m again not wearing glasses, and I also took off my Lion King sweater from the previous pictures…clearly I must have had a reason for this, but I couldn’t tell you what it was…

We were then off to our 3rd and final Fastpass for the day, with me freaking out the entire way. When we entered the Fastpass line for Rock N’ Roller Coaster, I honestly thought I was going to have a panic attack – I had only ever been on 2 rides in my life that went upside down, and I had bad experiences on both of them. The first was on a ride called the Rok-n-Rol and I left with bruises on my hips from the seatbelt. The second was my first and only time on the Zipper. I was wearing flip-flops (because I was 14 and way too cool to be spotted wearing sneakers at an amusement park), and they fell off my feet as soon as went upside down. Luckily the zipper has you inside a little cage so I didn’t lose my flip-flops, but they did manage to smack in the face multiple times before the ride was over.

Luke was so excited about this ride, I only went on it to make him happy. But, as it turns out – all of that worrying was for nothing! I ended up loving this! It was really quick, only lasting a little over a minute (so I can’t imagine standing in line for hours for it), but I’m really glad I went through with giving it a chance. I barely even noticed the loop, since you can’t really see the track in front of you so you don’t notice it until you’re upside down, and even then it’s so fast. I will absolutely go on this again on our next trip, and I won’t be freaking out about it at all!

After we got off the ride, there was a cast member drawing on the pavement with water. It was really neat, so we stood around for a few minutes watching that.

Next: A Boat Ride, A Reunion and the RAIN!

After beating Luke at Toy Story Midway Mania, we had tons of time before our next Fastpass, so we hopped in line to meet Woody and Buzz Lightyear. The line was fairly long, but the queue line was designed to look like different scenes from the movie so I had fun with that.

About 25 minutes later, it was our turn to meet Buzz and Woody. It was an ok character meet and greet, but it felt like what I would consider a snap and shove – it felt like the Photopass people just wanted to snap our picture and shove us out to get to the next person. Maybe because we were just two adults without any kids, but I felt really rushed at this. We did end up with three Photopass pictures though, and they turned out decent!

After rushing through the Buzz and Woody meet-and-greet, we stopped to have some Photopass pictures taken with the Pixar sign in the background.

Looking back at all of my pictures now, my outfits looked a bit ridiculous. I had short sleeve and sleeveless Disney dresses, but it ended up being a bit cold the entire time we were there, so I ended up wearing my sweaters that I planned on only wearing at night. Same for the leggings, I had planned on wearing spandex shorts under my dresses, but due to the cold I put on my long leggings every day. Also – yes – it wasn’t actually cold, I am Canadian but I guess I’m weak haha.

We took our time, exploring the park a bit as we headed towards our third Fastpass – Tower of Terror! Last year when we went to California, I swore there was no way I was going on that ride, but I was still interested in taking a look at the building up close. When we got to it, there was only a 15 minute wait, and Luke was really excited to go on it. I hesitantly agreed, and ended up absolutely loving it! So we knew that it had to be a FastPass for our Hollywood Studios day! The fourth dimension at WDW is really cool, and I’d say that alone makes the ride better in Florida. However, I feel like the view from the open window is much better in California and therefore makes the ride more terrifying (but still awesome). I also loved the video you get from this ride with Memory Maker.

We then stopped at a store close to Tower of Terror so I could buy a mug I had my eye on – seriously how cute is this?!

I sent my new Chip mug directly back to our hotel, and I also bought the ears I had decided on – the Minnie sequin ones. We stopped on the street leading to the Tower of Terror to have more Photopass pictures taken – I was determined to get my money’s worth out of that thing! I love that you can actually see Luke’s medal he got earlier that day for the 10km race!

We found a Fastpass Kiosk and made our 4th selection of the day for Fantasmic, now that our initial three had been used. We checked the time, and figured we had enough time before our supper reservation to go watch the Indiana Jones Stunt Show, so we waited in line and then found seats. I’d say that show is just ok, I found there to be a lot of dull moments. Instead of the 45 minute show that it is, I think it could be awesome shaved down to a 20-25 minute show. Mind you, I might also be saying this because we were awake at an unnatural hour that morning, and this was one of the first times we had really sat down in hours… Anyways, as we were watching the show we realized we were getting close to our reservation time, so we had to be those people who get up before the show is over and leave. I felt bad about it, but I didn’t want to be late! After checking in for supper we ended up sitting outside the restaurant waiting for our names to be called for almost 15 minutes – turns out we would have had enough time to finish watching the Indy Stunt Show. Oh well, such is life.

After our meal, we wanted something low impact, so we headed over to watch Voyage of the Little Mermaid. Despite just drinking a coffee, Luke almost fell asleep a few times… It was a cute show – the cast member playing Ariel was a really great singer. I enjoyed the laser effects on the walls of the theatre – I would spend the 20 minutes to go see this again!

We spent a bit of time just walking around, taking in all of the sights and spending some time people watching. At some point we ended up going on Star Tours for the third time that day…you’d never know we’re not really Star Wars fans haha. I totally understand why they added scenes from the new movie, but I found all 3 of our rides were basically the same without much variation. We still obviously enjoyed it though!

It was getting close to the start of the Symphony in the Sky fireworks so we headed over to find a place to watch them. I’m not someone who will stand around for hours staking out the best viewing spot, but I was more than happy with the spot we found about 15 minutes before they started! I ended up loving it! I’ve never watched a single Star Wars movie, but I had no trouble following the story they were telling with the music and red and green fireworks.

After the fireworks ended, a huge mass of people started heading towards the park exit. We eventually made our way through them, and headed over to watch the second showing of Fantasmic! We didn’t have time to see the Disneyland version of this show last year, so I was excited to finally get a chance. It had been such a long day for us by that point, I actually had to nudge Luke a few times to keep him awake. It was a really cool show, and I’m so glad we had a chance to see it (well, I saw it, Luke had a nap). It’s a show I would go back to again for sure. That said, it still didn’t overtake World of Colour at Disney California Adventure as my favourite nighttime show.

Once Fantasmic was over, the park was already closed and had cleared out significantly. We had a short wait for a bus (although it felt like forever). Before long, we were back at All-Star Music where I decided I was hungry (I hadn’t ate much at supper). We stopped at Intermission Food Court for a late night snack, review can be found here.

I ate quickly, and we headed off to bed – we were asleep pretty quickly after such a long day!

Next: A Hollywood Studios Morning

Once we had warmed up a bit (it was kind of cold for Florida!) we headed out to our park of the day! This time we did end up having a bit of a wait for a bus, according to the electronic board about 10 minutes. I still wasn’t feeling 100% from the day before, but I decided I had enough time to run to the bathroom inside the main lobby. Of course, the bus didn’t take even close to 10 minutes, and it showed up while I was inside. Luke told the bus driver to go ahead, we’d just wait for the next bus but he was actually ahead of schedule a little bit, and said he was going to wait for a few minutes anyways. I ended up making it with tons of time. Our bus ride was really quick, and fairly empty since it was well past rope drop. It had also started raining again, so that sucked – but it also meant a nearly empty park upon arrival!

After we went through the security line, Luke was approached by a man. It was raining pretty hard at this point, so Luke didn’t fully hear him and thought he was trying to sell him a rain poncho – to which he responded “no thanks”. This was met with a really strange look because the “strange man” was actually a security guard wearing a rain coat, and had told Luke he was selected for additional screening (which just meant he had to go through a metal detector). Oops! We quickly realized our mistake and headed over to the metal detector. After going through and having no issues of course, we grabbed a park map and headed into the nearly empty park. It was about 10:45 at this point, so way too early to go check in for our 11:30 lunch reservation. We studied the map for a bit, and then set off at a leisurely pace – no need to rush. We found the restaurant we were going to though, just so we knew where it was and then went to check on wait times for nearby rides. Star Tours had a posted wait time of only 10 minutes, so we hopped in line. We had loved this ride when we were at Disneyland last April, despite neither of us being Star Wars fans. The wait was pretty much exact, and 10 minutes later we were boarding the ride. The ride itself lasts about 5 minutes. Two of the scenes were from the new movie, which we did not go to see (are we the only two people on the planet who didn’t see that movie?!), but we still had fun! By this point it was about 11:15, so we decided to go check in early for our lunch reservation at 50’s Prime Time Cafe. I was really excited to eat here, as it had been highly recommended by a lot of people I had talked to. My review can be found here.

After settling our bill, we headed out of the restaurant for our First FastPass of the day – which of course was Star Tours. Yes, this was our second time on it that day. Yes, we are not Star Wars fans. Yes, I’ve never actually watched a single movie from the franchise… But it’s a great ride!

After our second journey through the galaxy, we had some time to kill before our next fastpass. I had to go to Pizza Planet – we had just ate lunch so there was no way I was hungry enough to eat again, but I love the Toy Story movies and the little green men. I also knew that it was going to be closing soon for renovations, so I knew I wanted to see it.

It was really cute in there! Hopefully it will be re-opened by our next trip, and I’ll actually eat there!

When I finished my last post, we were at Pizza Planet. After leaving there, we went to Muppet Vision 3D. We both thought it was really cute, but I don’t know if we would do it more than once per trip. For some reason I didn’t take any pictures by the Muppet Theatre… When we got over there we pretty much walked straight in with no wait.

After leaving there, we walked along the Streets of America. The Osbourne Lights were still up, but not turned on (this was also in the early afternoon, so they wouldn’t have been turned on anyways). I’m sad I never had a chance to see the lights in all their glory . When we first started planning our trip, the last night for the lights to be turned on was January 2nd, and we weren’t arriving in Florida until the 5th so we would miss them completely. However, shortly before we arrived in Orlando, I checked again and they had been extended until January 6th – which we already had planned as a Magic Kingdom day. I know a lot of people would have just switched to the 6th being a Hollywood Studios Day, but I would have had to move all of our Fastpasses at that point, as well as dining reservations. I knew I’d never be able to move our Be Our Guest dinner that we had on the 6th, it was so hard to get in the first point! So we just accepted that the Osbourne Lights would be something we’d miss out on. All that said, we were still able to see how many there were! Hopefully they relocate those somewhere else on property for next year!

While we were on the Street of America, we stopped for some Photopass pictures!

I love that second one! After those pictures we walked along Commissary Lane to the Centre Stage area. We were on our way to the Pixar area, but for some reason we had a really hard time finding it at first. Eventually we found it, and it was time for our second Fastpass of the day – Toy Story Midway Mania! We had been on this ride in California, and it’s essentially the same ride in both parks. I love the theming of the area around it in Florida though, so cute and the attention to detail was fantastic. I can’t wait to see what they do with the Toy Story expansion they are currently working on!

The queue line looked so cool, but there’s no way I’d ever wait in line for an hour. I actually ended up winning, I believe that’s a first!

Next: More Hollywood Studios

This was an extremely early morning – we were getting up when a younger version of myself would have just been heading to bed…But I was okay with it – this was our entire reason for this trip! It was 10k day!

Luke woke up around 2:45am so he could eat his yogurt parfait and cereal he had picked up the night before, and start getting himself hydrated. I heard him get up, but I refused to open my eyes and swing my legs over the side of the bed until 3:30. I quickly brushed my teeth, threw my hair up into a messy ponytail and we left the room about 15 minutes later. When we got to the front of the hotel where bus-pick up was, there was already a bus for the race sitting there waiting so we walked directly on (seriously, Disney transport had been so good to us so far on this trip!). It was a short drive to the parking lot at Epcot, and then we got into the line for people carrying bags. It moved really quickly, and it did not take us long before we were in the main area for the race. There were so many people! While we walked around a bit, it started raining – good thing I was wearing my rain coat! Around 5am Luke had to head to the starting corrals, so I gave him a hug, wished him good luck and told him to not worry about his time and just enjoy every minute of the race! I went around to the spectator viewing area to watch the start of the race.

At exactly 5:25am, the first countdown was held and the wheelchair athletes were off! At 5:30 the actual competitive athletes (Corral A) took off. Each 10 minutes, another group had their chance to leave the start gate and set out on their 10km, and with each group there were fireworks set off.

Eventually, Group D was led into the starting corral!

I was texting Luke, and let him know where I was so he could wave to me as he went by to start his race After I watched him go through the start gate, I made my way over to the finish line. I knew he’d be at least an hour and a half, since he did want to stop and meet a few characters (because seriously, where else can he do that during a race?!). It was raining this entire time, and it was kind of cold but luckily I had dressed in layers. I found a spot to sit on the grandstands beside the finish line, set Luke’s sweater down so I could keep my bum dry haha, and made myself comfortable. I did have a great view of this:

Luke’s group started the race at 6am, and it rained until a little after 7:30 or so. I actually got to sit there and watch the sunrise around Spaceship Earth – so cool!

I had taken my bookbag with me, I was planning on using the time to write down my notes of everything that we did the day before in the new travel journal my mom had bought me for Christmas but the rain put a damper on that. I was not bored at all though, it was a ton of fun to just people watch! Some of the costumes were phenomenal! People put so much effort into their outfits, and they all looked great! Some people just have so much creativity! Luke was texting me every so often, and stopping to update his Facebook to let our families and friends know how he was doing with pictures like this one:

Just past the 4 mile marker, he texted to say he was going to stop to meet his first character – Remy from Ratatouille! About 10 minutes later, I had this picture sent to me:

So cute! I love how happy Luke looks in this picture!

Around the 5 mile mark, Luke texted me again to say he was stopping for another character picture – this time with Mike and Sulley dressed in Monsters University gear.

It stopped raining right before this. I also knew that Luke was getting close to the end of the race, so I had my camera out and ready to take pictures of him on the last stretch of his first Disney 10km.

After crossing the finish line, Luke received his medal, a mylar blanket, a box full of food and a bottle of water and a bottle of Powerade. After this he exited the runner’s area, so I was finally able to see him and congratulate him on completing his first run in another country. He asked me to take his picture with his medal so he could post it on his facebook for his family to see.

After this, we headed to the buses to go back to our hotel. There happened to be one there waiting – once again zero wait time! The bus was fairly full and we weren’t able to get seats together, but it wasn’t a very far drive to All Star Music so we didn’t mind. We were back to our hotel in about 10-15 minutes. Once we got to our room, I peeled off my soaking wet clothes and put on warm clothes, then climbed under the blankets to warm up. Luke went for a shower. We ate a few snacks, including opening up Luke’s goodie box from the race – which included a banana, an energy bar, corn chips and cheese dip, cookies, etc.

I still was not feeling good, and had to make yet another bathroom break shortly after we left the restaurant. We decided to get in line to go see Festival of the Lion King, but before the doors even opened I decided I couldn’t do it, and I was full-out sick. After yet another trip the bathroom, I sadly had to call and cancel our supper reservation for the night – at 1900 Park Fare I was so excited about going to see the Grand Floridian, and now there was no way we could make it work into our schedule – I was really sad, but I know my body well enough to know it was not an option for tonight. At that point, we decided to call it a day and just go back to our hotel room – it was only about 2:30.

Day Three – Thursday, January 7, 2016 – Part One

We woke up around 8am (I know, I know, it’s not a true Disney trip unless you’re at the parks at rope drop, but I just like sleep way too much). After getting dressed, we headed straight to the buses. We were heading to Animal Kingdom! We had to wait less than 5 minutes for a bus to show up, and then we were on our way! I was really excited about this park, I love animals (which you might have figured out since Luke and I have 11 pets haha). The bus ride to Animal Kingdom from the All-Star resorts is so short!

We actually had trouble getting into the park, my thumbprint wouldn’t work. They needed to call over a supervisor, who had to reset it and then take my picture on her iPad to make sure I wasn’t just passing off my MagicBand to someone else. I didn’t mind that, I completely understand them taking those steps to ensure everyone is honest. Luckily, I had no more issues the rest of our trip, but I did need to have my fingerprint thing reset at Universal every time I entered. I guess I have weird thumbs haha.

After getting through, we set off into the park. That first view of the Tree of Life is almost breath-taking! I love how the parks were designed to play with your perspectives – the road which slants down towards towards the Tree, which is set up on a slightly higher piece of ground makes the entire thing appear so much larger than it actually is. The castle in Magic Kingdom does the same thing. (Yes, I notice things like that, it’s my actual job to pay attention to small details haha). Anyways, enough of my jabbering, here’s a picture of the tree:

I really wanted to stop for Photopass pictures with the tree in the background, but we were running out of time on our first Fastpass of the morning, so we just had time to stop and snap the picture above before hurrying over to the Safari. We made it there with a few minutes to spare, but I was just happy we had made it! It took us about 10-15 minutes to get through the Fastpass line before we were boarding a truck. I loved this – and we saw so many animals since it was still early in the morning, and it was a little cool out. Some of the animals were really close to us! After our safari was over, we were already in the window for our second Fastpass, which of course was on the other side of the park… So, off we went to Dinoland! We entered the fastpass line for Dinosaur, and only waited about 10 minutes before we were time traveling back in time. This ride reminded me a lot of the Indiana Jones ride in Disneyland, it uses the same technology for the ride vehicles. But, there really is no comparing the two – Indy wins hands down. I kind of feel like Disney cheaped out when making Dinosaur, just making a lot of it dark. With Indiana Jones, there is so much detail put into the entire ride, and everytime I go on it I notice more. Don’t get me wrong, Dinosaur was still fun though!

After re-entering 2016, we still had time before our next Fastpass. We saw that Primeval Whirl only had a 20 minute standby time, so we jumped into line for that. The posted wait time was pretty much exact, and 20 minutes later we were getting onto the ride where I snapped these pictures:

The ride itself was a crazy-mouse style roller coaster, but the cars actually spin a bit. I’m not a huge fan of this type of ride, but this was one of the better ones I’ve ever been on. By the time we exited the ride, it was within our window for our third (and final) Fastpass of the day. But first, let me backtrack a bit.

As we were walking over to DinoLand, I wasn’t feeling 100% and stopped to use the bathroom before we went on the ride. Before getting in line for Primeval Whirl, I went to the bathroom again. I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease in February 2013, so I’ve had this for a few years now. It sucks, but I’m determined to not let this disease dictate my life. A lot of people are affected way worse than I am – I travel a few times per year, I go to sports events, concerts, festivals, etc and I’ve continued working full time.

Anyways, we were off to Expedition Everest! I absolutely loved this ride! I wasn’t feeling great, but I was still able to really enjoy our search for the Yedi. I also love our ride picture from this:

Yes, Luke was playing the air drums.

When we got off, we decided to head back to Africa. We were still about 45 minutes away from our reservation time at Tusker House, but I wasn’t feeling good and was not up to going on another ride at that moment. We tried to find the Fastpass Kiosk that was shown on the map we had grabbed as we entered the park, but we kept walking past where it should have been and could not find it. I was feeling worse and worse, and knew I needed to get food and water into my body ASAP. We were still half an hour away from our lunch reservation time, but we went to check in at Tusker House anyways and ask if we could get in early. Luckily it was not a problem, and 5 minutes later we were led to our table. My review of our meal can be found here.
